PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
