RAF Typhoon jets have joined forces with France's air force in a combined operation targeting an underground arms cache in Syrian territory employed by the IS group, according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
The location, located using surveillance, was assessed as storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was situated in mountains just above the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a number of entry passages leading to the facility... initial indications are that the strike was effective," officials stated.
There was no sign of any harm to civilians in the operation on Saturday evening and each participating jet returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
The Islamic State group - referred to as Daesh - imposed militant control over significant areas in Iraq and Syria until 2019.

British military aircraft have performed surveillance missions over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of the group following its routing at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank all the members of our armed forces participating in this strike for their expertise and their valour," he commented. "They were among numerous British troops stationed over the festive period. This action, to take out terrorist threats who endanger our safety, demonstrates how British military are prepared to act, continuously, ensuring Britain's security at home and strong abroad."
